11: The steps
Now turn right up the steep steps. This is your final trial, a test before you leave. Think of all the feet that have trod this path over millennia, to reach the land we now know as New Addington. Think about how each generation has been sustained by this soil, inhaled this air. Over thousands of years, these species around you have barely changed. But then how much have we changed, really? Now let’s build our story.
Is there a threatening plant that blocks the way?
A mess of creeping tendrils threaten to grasp
A shambling mound of roots twists and groans
A thicket of thick thorns enclose all around
A thick pollen fills the air, causing drowsiness
A host of walking nettle-creatures move to surround you
A rumble in the earth, and a great thorned tendril breaks through, lashing at all that pass
How does your character traverse this test? Do they go around or go through? Is this a test of cunning, skill or strength? Decide and continue your tale.
